Today is my birthday !! I’m 48 or as my Dad would say, I’m in my 49th year ! I've never been shy about sharing my age. Age is but a number, its our attitude thats important. I am not posting this to look for birthday wishes, I am simply in a reflective mood and felt like sharing (warning, it’s a long post). But maybe what I share will resonate with even one person and help them.
I see people all the time, in life or in business, waiting for an invitation or permission to do something….. stop waiting for permission or to be asked. If you want something, go and get it for yourself. Most of the time, we are the ones holding ourselves back. And if an invitation does come, grab it with both hands and run with it. I have said NO to opportunities in the past because I felt I wasn’t able, yet the person offering me the opportunity did feel I was able. From now on, I’m saying YES to everything (obviously only if its progress for me, ha ha).
I think anyone who knows me, knows that I’m not typically a worrier. I certainly don’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet. I don’t believe in ‘what if’, unless its ‘What if I won the lotto’. We could so easily spend our whole lives worrying about something that may never happen and what a waste of head space that would be. I also don’t focus on the little details. Sh*t happens, do your best to deal with whats happening now, try not to dwell on things that are in the past, as you no longer have control over it.
Choose your battles or if you can at all, avoid going into battle. I say all this but I’m also aware that everyone is wired differently and what works for me, may not work for someone else. I try to be empathic and sympathetic to others, even if I feel they have an issue with me, more often than not, its about them, not me, so I don’t take offence. I rarely take offence or react, unless I feel strongly about a situation.
I know this is easier said than done and it is something I’ve really struggled with before, especially when I’m posting on socials but stop worry about what others think. Firstly, most people are more worried about themselves than they are about you. Secondly, you can’t control what others think, just be true to yourself and your values and if you aren’t hurting others, then carry on.
I’m knocking on the door of 50, a new decade beckons and I’m feeling very blessed. My family are healthy, as am I and my parents are in good health. That is what really matters. I am surrounded by a circle of friends and colleagues who are always supportive of everything I do. My business is strong, I’m attracting my ideal clients, those medium sized businesses who need marketing support for their organisations.
Life could change in a second, so lets all make the most of what we have and be grateful, there is so much horrible stuff going on in the world right now, lets be thankful for our safe lives.
