Done is better than Perfect
Speaking at Social Media Fest Dublin 🎤
What a day at Social Media Fest at the Maldron Hotel,Dublin Airport! Hosted by the fabulous Samantha Kelly (Tweeting Goddess), this event was packed with so much valuable take aways, energy, insight and inspiration. I was truly honoured to speak on stage alongside incredible voices in the social media and marketing space.
The whole event was built around how to use social media to grow your business. When I got on stage, one of the first things I said was "People either love or hate social media’" I thought that was quiet a bold statement, considering the event and audience !! But lets be honest, some people really do hate it, its time consuming, its difficult to keep showing up, its exhausting to keep creating engaging content. But the reality is, love it or hate it, it’s an essentially marketing tool today.
My presentation was entirely about getting the basics right, setting the foundations. This is something so many overlook: you need to know your ideal customer and understand their needs, then craft a message that connects with them. Because no matter how great your content is, if it's speaking to the wrong audience, it’s falling flat. I shared some cracking examples of businesses sending‘the wrong message to the wrong audience’ !

Was my presentation perfect? Definitely not !! I forgot some key points, stumbled a little... but I showed up. And that’s my biggest takeaway for anyone holding themselves back….. stop waiting for perfect. Get over the fear. Show up anyway. Done is better than perfect. And the feedback on my presentation was incredible, I’m so grateful to everyone for their kind words.
Sounds a bit cheesy but I’m really proud of myself, a few years ago, firstly I probably wouldn’t have considered myself good enough to say yes to speaking at this event and secondly, I would have totally focused on what I didn’t get right on the day and micro analyse all of that!!! But now I think, 'well done, you did it'..... I’ve come a long way 😊

But none of this would be possible without the support of others. A huge thank you to :
* Samantha Kelly for the invitation and for hosting such a brilliant event.
* Marie Wiseman of Wiser Marketing for being such a great travel buddy! (BTW, we travelled from Kerry Airport, which has to be the cutest airport ever)
* Julie Guiblin and Shauna Colaci for their support on the day
* And my Network Ireland West Cork colleagues who joined virtually
I met so many lovely people at this event and a massive kudos goes to all the incredible speakers I was proud to share the stage with.
